Paperweight....

Paperweight

For this class you’ll need:
• Pattern from Aardvark Quilts (you can purchase at camp for $9)
• right triangle ruler (at least 8 ½” - any right angle ruler will work) (you can purchase at camp for ~$15)
• 6” square ruler (nothing special - a larger square will work but 6 1/2" is a nice size to handle) (you can purchase at camp for ~$12.75)
• fabric for the size you wish to make
• fabric sizing & basic sewing supplies

Choosing fabrics: This project is designed to bring to mind those beautiful swirling glass paperweights. It works well with high-contrast, graphical fabrics some of which can be directional (stripes, squiggles, etc.). The background works well with dark fabrics (the sample uses predominantly black) and can be single fabric or scrappy – totaling the yardage listed. If some of the outer rims of the octagons are also dark, they will appear as smaller paperweights because the outer ring will blend into the background.

The fabric quantities are for three sizes but you can make any size you’d like by using more or less fabric. Choosing a few extra fabrics is a good idea to give you some more design choices as you’re building but you can always add more later on.
